Shito-Ryu Karate-Do International Renshikan

Memberships & Dan Gradings 

Shito-Ryu Karate-Do International Renshikan is an organization aimed at physical and mental cultivation of individual through practice of Shitoryu Karatedo and contribute to development of society worldwide.

MEMBERSHIP:

We accept members and groups from all countries complying the principles of Shito-Ryu Karate-Do International Renshikan and appoint National Director / Representative. All member Groups of SKIR shall work in coordination with International headquarter and probationary membership will be granted for first year and full membership later.

We are not actively searching for members but when we are contacted by interested groups our Directory Committee will consider their application for membership and, if they are found to embrace our understanding of the spirit of SKIR, we will accept them. If anyone is interested in joining the SKIR please send a simple email to: skir.executiveoffice@gmail.com

The National Director / Representative will be regarded as the ‘chief instructor’ of their country. They will have control and command of group and instructors developed by them in their country.
The SKIR wishes to establish and maintain long-lasting relationships with its member countries. Membership to the SKIR shall be taken as an honour and a privilege and, of course, it has to be beneficial to all.

GRADINGS:

Clubs and organizations who become members of our SKIR may continue to hold Dan grading for their students in accordance with their own national and organizational rules up to the rank of 1st Kyu. Therefore Kyu grade will not be compulsory for students to be examined by the SKIR Grading Panel.
The SKIR Dan Grading Panel shall examiner students from 1st dan and above. The National Representative of SKIR of a country can apply to be an authorized examiner of SKIR, upon which he/she can conduct dan grading examination for his/her country.  

All Dan Grading Diplomas will be issued by SKIR International Headquarters attested by National Representative. The detailed grading syllabus and rules concerning the composition of the SKIR Dan Grading Panel are found in a separate document that can be supplied upon request.

SEMINARS:

Members will be able to invite senior instructors from the SKIR to lead a seminar/course in their country. Members are invited to attend an annual seminar at SKIR International Headquarters. The seminar contents: traditional and modern sports karate (Kata and Kumite), teaching Karate to children, complimentary practice to Karate.  

COMPETITIONS:

The member country can organize and host regional, national Karate competitions in their respective countries and can get sanctioned by SKIR HQ. If they wish to host International Karate Competition under the banner of SKIR then need to apply to SKIR HQ.

FEES / FINANCES:

There will be no membership fees to pay.
The SKIR HQ. will be financed by fees and income generated through seminars, gradings and merchandising. If, for example, you take a grading, the fee will be divided / apportioned as follows: 1/3 to the SKIR, 1/3 will be applied to pay the expenses of the members of the grading panel, 1/3 will be received by the national organization of which the candidate is a member.
Seminar fees for international seminars led by an SKIR HQ Instructor will be used to pay the necessary travel and accommodation costs of the SKIR HQ Instructor (but not their spouse or other relatives or assistants) and also the teaching fee (which will be negotiated and agreed by the SKIR HQ in each case).

LOGO (SKIR crest/logo and national/organizational logos):

The SKIR crest / logo can be found on the top of every page of this document. Clubs and organizations who become members of the SKIR can use SKIR logos that demonstrate unity members are requested, where possible, to display the SKIR logo, for example on official papers etc.

DAN GRADING SYLLABUS:

SHO DAN ( I DAN)

  • Two kata from the following, one chosen by the candidate one by the Examiner:
  • Kata of 3rd to 1st kyu: HEIAN Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan,
    TENSHO, BASSAI DAI, KOSOKUN DAI, JUROKU, NAIHANCHI SHODAN , MATZUKASE.
  • Kumite/ Ippon kumite (at the discretion of Examiner)

NI DAN ( II DAN)

  • Anyone from Heian 1-5 and in addition Two kata from the following, one chosen by the candidate one by the Examiner.
  • WANSHU, BASSAI SHO, SEIUNCHIN, JITTE
  • Kumite/ Ippon kumite (at the discretion of Examiner)

SAN DAN ( III DAN)

  • Anyone from Heian 1-5 and in addition Two kata from the following, one chosen by the candidate one by the Examiner.
  • SEIPEI, JION, KOSOKUN SHO, NISEISHI.
  • Demonstration of 3 bunkai for each kata – chosen by candidate.
  • Kumite/ Ippon kumite (at the discretion of Examiner)
  • The etiquette and attitude of candidate will also be taken into consideration.

YON DAN ( IV DAN)

  • Anyone from Heian 1-5 and in addition Two kata from the following, one chosen by the candidate one by the Examiner.
  • SUPERIMPEI, SAIFA, MATSUMURA ROHAI.
  • Demonstration of 3 bunkai for each kata – chosen by candidate.
  • Kumite/ Ippon kumite (at the discretion of Examiner)
  • The etiquette and attitude of candidate will also be taken into consideration.

GO DAN ( V DAN)

  • Anyone from Heian 1-5 and in addition Two kata from the following, one chosen by the candidate one by the Examiner.
  • NIPAIPO, MATSUMURA BASSAI, GOJUSHIHO.
  • Demonstration of 3 bunkai for each kata – chosen by candidate.
  • Kumite (at the discretion of Examiner)
  • The etiquette and attitude of candidate will also be taken into consideration.
  • In addition the candidate will be required to write a thesis on a subject advised by the Directory
    Committee (DC) of SKIR or the Technical Director.

ROKU DAN ( VI DAN)

  • Anyone from Heian 1-5 and in addition any Two kata from shitoryu list following, one chosen by the candidate one by the Examiner.
  • Demonstration of 3 bunkai for each kata – chosen by candidate.
  • The etiquette and attitude of candidate will also be taken into consideration.
  • In addition the candidate will be required to write a thesis on a subject advised by the SKIR Examiner or the Technical Director.
    IMPORTANT NOTE:

Applications to attempt 5th dan and above should be notified to the grading officer at least 6 months prior. The thesis should be in English and should be sent to the SKIR grading examiner at least 3 months before the date of grading.

PAYMENT OF DAN GRADE FEES

The Dan grading fees is divided into 2 parts and need to be paid at one time.
1. Examination fee – (non-refundable)
2. Certification fee – (refunded if unsuccessful)
All fees paid initially into the bank account of the member country of the candidate.
The member country should then make a payment into the bank account of the SKIR HQ to cover the total cost of Examination fee – Certification fee.

The country hosting Dan grading examinations for their group should invite SKIR HQ. Examiner and should bear all his expenses travelling, lodging, boarding expenses.

NEW MEMBER COUNTRIES & ORGANIZATIONS

The chief instructor of all new member countries or organizations will be asked to provide proof of their grading history. This is not necessary if the last grading of the national representative was taken in front of the SKIR HQ grading panel.
The SKIR HQ has all rights regarding issuing, evaluation, suspension, revoking Dan grading, membership with SKIR.
